The Waiting Game!   This time last year we had already hand-picked some Chardonnay for our Sainte Rose Sparkling and were about to start harvesting for still wine!  In our 11 years at Sainte Rose, we have always started the harvest before the Beziers Feria, but this year is going to be the exception!  As the 15 August public holiday approaches we are still waiting for the grapes to ripen.     In the vineyards as of Sunday the Chardonnay was only showing 8.5% potential alcohol and the Sauvignon Blanc was at 8.3%.  The reason for the late start is…

Summer's here!   After a wet March and April, then an unseasonably cool May and June, we're pleased to announce that summer has finally arrived in the Languedoc!  It has been a strange year and assumptions were already being made about it being a late harvest, however with temperatures in the mid 30's Celsius for the past 2 weeks, the vines are making up for lost time!  At the beginning of June our vineyards were about 3 weeks behind their usual growth development.  Budding was late, flowering was late, though with all the water in early Spring, the canopy was…

Chardonnay, Year 2!   We are one year on from planting 4 hectares of Chardonnay and it is growing at an unprecedented rate!  So much so that we have neighbouring farmers stopping to admire it and question what we have done that has resulted in such astronomic growth!!!  The answer to that, quite frankly is the weather, combined with what is good soil and a fortuitous elevation and aspect.  After a long and relatively cold winter, we have had one of the wettest springs on record.  Our annual rainfall is around 600mm and this year we have received 300mm or…
