Le Coquille d'Oc Blanc

Coq white small

The Coquille d'Oc is a colourful new range of wines produced here at Sainte Rose. With their striking labels, easy drinking style and affordable price point these wines are guaranteed to create an impression!

We enlisted the help of neighbouring artist friends Andy & Pascale Bridge to create a unique brand name and image for this wine. The scallop shell was a very appropriate image to use for wine from Sainte Rose for two historical reasons. Firstly this shell was a waymarker for Medieval travellers on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.

There is one such shell embossed on a stone basin in front of our house as this site was once a hostellerie offering shelter to pilgrims travelling west. Secondly we have found actual scallop shells in one of our vineyards that date back to Roman times as there was a Roman settlement on the outskirts of what is now our local village.

Le Coquille D'Oc White Wine is a deliciously drinkable blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat and Viognier.  Fresh, zingy citrus fruit flavours and wonderfully peachy aromatics combine with a surprisingly rich finish making this a perfect light lunchtime white.

What the critics say about the Coquille D'Oc

International Wine Challenge Commended, 2013!

...this devastating cocktail of grapes is a rare and wondrous creation. Haunting on the nose and succulent on the palate...

Matthew Jukes, The Daily Mail, 25th August, 2012

Their estate has produced a terrific run of Top 100-approved wines and this crisp, zingy, yet easy-swigging white is the latest. A juicy, blend of chardonnay and sauvignon blanc, topped with viognier and a dash of muscat, this summery white with lots of floral, lemon zest-spiked fruit is the Simpson's answer to muscadet.

Jane McQuitty, The Times, 21st of August, 2012

Fun, lively, packed with fruit. Very friendly. Smudgy blend but nothing is out of place.

Jancis Robinson, Purplepages, June 2011

Winner of a Top 100 IGPs of France 2011 Award!

International Wine Challenge Commended, 2011!

Although a somewhat unusual mix of grape varieties (Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Viognier and Muscat) it works really well - and does in fact display many of the characteristics of its constituent parts. And although not complex, neither is it a simple quaffer, with juicy summer fruit and zesty citrus flavours accompanied by some intriguing savoury, spicy and herby nuances, and even a touch of salinity. A really well-made wine, which puts most other generic Languedoc blends in the shade.

Leon Stolarski, January 2011

Strikes me as fine value. On paper, it's a strange blend (Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Viognier and Muscat) but the wine has those same salty lemon notes I found in the Marin Blanc (the taste of Thongue?) with some peachy sweetness: lovely uncomplicated sipping once again, and plenty of true Mediterranean character.

Andrew Jefford(of Decanter), January 2011

Le Coquille D'Oc has had continued success in the Concours des Vins Blanc de Saint Aphrodise 2010, which aims to promote interesting white wines produced in the Languedoc. In the initial round, Le Coquille d'Oc White 2009 won a gold medal and thus went forward to the International tasting final held at Vinopolis in London. There it came second and had a special prize created for it.

Le Coquille D'Oc White wins an award and is a finalist in the 14th Concours des Vins Blancs de Sainte-Aphrodise. The final tasting will take place at Vinopolis in London on 30th June, 2010.
